Soylent Green (1973)

soylent20greenThis early 1970′s Charlton Heston starring dystopian science fiction flick left me a little more than wishing for something with a little more substance. While the hook is rather superb, the execution is meandering and dull, and while I have no qualms with the fact that Soylent Green’s twist is one of the most impressive ever, I found the preceding 80 minutes to be incredibly slow and difficult. The film lacking the visual flair and impressive design that usually comes with other films of a similar nature, such as Fahrenheit 451 or Westworld. I have a real issue with Charlton Heston’s acting technique too, which is verging on the William Shatner side of emoting, and as a result found Soylent Green a difficult film to take to.
